Periodical Post III

I'm going to Tally tomorrow for my friends graduation (shout out to Asim!) so probably no posts that day, maybe a late one. Fun fact: TQF was actually born in Tallahassee, in Asim's room, in about 30 minutes.

This first track is from a compilation called Pop Massacre. It's basically a bunch of songs murdered by some really respectable DJs. I actually didn't think it was too hot but I liked a track or two. They have a follow up in the works that's supposed to be coming out soon. The second track is from a up and coming group called The Dean's List. Shout out to Brian for forcing me to listen to them! Third track is a monster. I usually think old-school-videogame-songs-remixed are a quick and cheap way to get plays but this one is too cool to skip. It's a dubstep mix though so if you don't have a liking for it then it may not be your cup of tea. The Jack Beats track I swear is going to make you hear sounds from your headphones that you didn't know it was ever capable of making.

Alright goodnight guys, pray I wake up on time for work. As usual click on the arrow in the sidebar to download the tracks.

Rich Hil - EPS (featuring Kid Cudi) + Won't You Tell Me (featuring Kid Cudi)

I told you guys a while ago I would post some Rich Hil, sorry it took so long. I don't know really know where to even begin with this guy. He's the son of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, a year younger than me, hails from CT, and pumps music out like a machine. The best way to describe his tracks I guess would be Alternative Hip-Hop/Rap. His flow is usually pretty chill and laid back but in his voice you can hear so much desperation. I don't like all of his stuff but I can respect where he's coming from. And oh Kid Cudi and him are cool.

Sidenote: I'll probably do the next Periodical Post late tonight, I wanted to post this first.

Video: Nardwuar Interview Lil Wayne

Nardwuar is a crazy dude with a very original interviewing style. He does a scary amount of research on the artist and then presents them with gifts that all relate to them in some crazy connected way. You can check out his YouTube channel where he's interviewed Kid Cudi, Drake, and J. Cole just to name a few.

Chi Duly - Basement Party (The Cool Kids + Modjo)

This one is super cool and perfect for the weekend. Apparently it's still not finished but shout out to Dirty Laces for posting it. The world needs more music like this. Check out his mixtape October's Very Cold if you haven't already.

Side story: A while back I offered Chi Duly some "FaceBook friending" advice via Twitter. I was a little nervous of how things were going to go down because the progress took some time, but I'm happy to announce everything worked out. Did he really need any advice? No. Am I going to take credit anyways? Absolutely. All of this got me thinking if there were other people who took FaceBook as serious as I did for matters like these. That's when I found a group called "how to propose to a girl on face book". Now I can be part of more success stories every single day. Life has meaning again.

Chiddy Bang Attempting to Break The World Record For "Longest Freestyle Rap" today

This should be interesting, to break the record he has to rap for over 8 hours non-stop. He's taking topic suggestions via twitter, just mention @realchiddy and use the hashtag #RapWorldRecord. All of this is going to be streamed online via MTV's digital music awards show. Head over to OMusicAwards.com to check it out. 8 hours is a long time.. the show starts at 2:30 EST. #shoutouttoasad because we only text in hashtags.

Vetiver - Can't You Tell

Just finished up with my last exam, functioning off of just 3 hours sleep and my head is still running in circles. Sorry about the lack of posts but the semester is done now so that means TQF is going to be back on all fours again. With that said, I really appreciated this track when I hit play considering the state I'm in currently. Instantly I pictured myself standing alone somewhere nice and calm under a clear blue sky with sunshine. Standing under a hundred red balloons filled with all my stress floating away quietly. Oh what a feeling, summer is finally here.

You kind of have to dig a little deep to get info on Vetiver but they hail from San Francisco and made their debut with an album back in 2004. They have an album coming out in June called The Errant Charm which I'm looking forward to. Check out the song below. Hit the jump for the cover art. The picture of red balloons is only up there because they me happy.

Video: G-Eazy - Kings (featuring Jai Paul)

G-Eazy uploaded the visuals for "Kings" late last night. Really simple video but I like it. The shots with the tide rolling up shore goes perfectly with Jai Paul's "oohs" in the background. I like how G-Eazy is chilling out there on the beach alone, just contemplating his take over: "I'm just hero that was unsung, but in time they'll see I'm truly someone." Go check out his mixtape The Outsider if you haven't already.

Rockie Fresh - We About It

Here's a drop that was released off an upcoming mixtape called #Supplyndemand from Blog or Die. I like the production more than the lyrics, but the hook is solid. Also it has Rick Ross's grunts in the background. Now that I think about it, I've never liked a grunt this much before. Never had I heard someone grunt and thought to myself, wow that's pretty impressive. Something about his grunt though.. I can't put it into words. I wonder what other involuntary sounds he makes. Quick someone find out where he works out at and get a recorder.

I'm really using this post as more of an excuse to follow up with the The Otherside mixtape post. Check out a couple of tracks I liked below, it was a good release.

Jai Paul - BTSTU (Edit)

So more than a year after the original song was released Jai Paul gives us an official final edit. And I thought I was bad with doing things in a timely manner. It's hard to tell the differences between the original demo that I posted and this but they're there, I promise.

I actually learned a lot of random facts about the song just the other day (from a source I can't find anymore). Facts like the only reason why it features a saxophone is because it was the only instrument his friend knew how to play. Or how about the song was made in under an hour! I can't wait until he starts putting more music out. Hopefully this is a sign of more things to come. This song is only available for purchase in the UK iTunes store but you can hear it below. You can also download the demo version from my first post here.
