My jam for the week. I'm hanging out the passenger side of my best friend's ride trying to holler at you.
Of course I would post this right after saying I was only going to squeeze in one more mashup before the year's close. This is a cover of TLC's "No Scrubs" mashed up with "Angels" by The xx.
The track is off Bastille's mixtape Other People's Heartache, Pt. 2 free for download.
Miguel's "Sure Thing" is no doubt his biggest work (it got him two song of the year nominations). It's incredibly personal but pulls it off without being off too R&B chlicé. I credit most of that too Miguel's nearly one of a kind slick-as-hell voice. When TRAILS AND WAYS released their cover I was afraid. Surely, no one could do this song justice. Fortunately I was wrong. They really own this cover from the instrumentals to the atmosphere to the the lyrics. Hop on their train quick before they blow up.
The French singer/songwriter Delilah got signed after a friend of hers sent a college project she did at an entertainment school to Island records. She got signed to Atlantic not too long after that, at the age of 17. "Inside My Love" is off her debut album From The Roots Up available in the UK. You can download Redlight's remix of her single/cover below.
I'm not the biggest fan of Ellie Goulding but its's hard to ignore her when she keeps covering amazing songs. This time her and Tinie Tempah take on Active Child's monster song "Hanging On".
I had never heard of Kilo Kish but when she opened the track "Make It Go Right" on Royalty... she really clicked with me. I don't want to say that she slurrs her words, but the way she stretches her vowels, I love that. The chill and cool persona that she has on the track is also how she is in person. I definitely feel like she offers something that my library doesn't have so I'll checking more of her stuff out and maybe sharing it. Here's a Lil Wayne cover that she recently released.
Oh and she's from Florida.
Calling Slow Hands' latest release a cover might not do it justice, but he somehow found a way to take Bon Iver's winter cabin inspired "Towers" into a song that's more suitable for a calm day beach side without losing the allure.
You already know that Young The Giant aren't scared to embrace aspects of culture not typical of the alternative rock genre with their song "Cough Syrup", in this cover of R. Kelly's "Ignition" we learn that they're also cool with women running their hands through their fros and bouncing on 24's.
While everyone is still trying to mashup M83's "Midnight City", The Knocks decided if you need something done right you have to do it yourself. Mandy Lee's vocalization of the original's trademark synth makes this one golden for me.
